Initially contracted to install new costing and estimating computer system and train personnel. Upon completion of initial assignment, engaged to re-engineer business process for commercial printing operation. Redesigned entire process flow for raw materials inventory layout, manufacturing, bindery and finished goods shipping. Results reduced clean up and make ready time by 65%, reduced overtime and second shift requirements by 45%, increased throughput by 35% and reduced inventory costs and cycle time by 25% without any increased cost of personnel, inventory investment or machinery.


Successful business turnaround engagement.
Contracted to streamline, restructure and direct ongoing operations of a $30M distribution facility experiencing severe losses and financial turbulence. We formulated short and long-range growth plans for all departments, established target parameters, and achieved desired results by providing innovative, targeted, and hands-on management.

Developed a highly successful sales organization and broker network. This new organization emphasized individual accountability with a platform of teamwork and value management. Contracted to write business plan for a start up lumber brokerage business. Involved evaluating the business environment, management, competition, supply and demand, pricing, administrative start up and on going costs, etc. When plan was completed and approved, SMG assisted with the procurement of funding by presenting the business plan and concept to potential investors. A funding source ultimately invested in the company, which has since been sold.

Evaluated existing operations, identified bottlenecks and non-value added processes and recommended suggested enhancements to process. SMG was then engaged to implement all recommended changes, which resulted a 350% increase in throughput, reduced per item cost by 75% and allowed company to be featured on QVC as one of "North Carolina's Own."
